1978 liked It=298852 Vote Michael Cimino runtime=3 h 3 Minute Reviews=Michael, Nick, and Steven are three buddies from the steel mill town of Clairton, Penn.They work together, hang out in a local bar and enjoying weekends deer hunting Ina a larger group with three other friends. But their placid life is soon to be changed after the three buddies enlist in the airborne infantry to go to Vietnam. So they all celebrate a goodbye at Steven's wedding and they leave for Vietnam. They are captured by the enemy and forced to play games of Russian Roulette to amuse their guards. They escape and Mike returns home to find Nick has stayed in Vietnam and Steven is handicapped after losing his legs and the use of one arm after the escape. Mike finds that deer hunting has changed for him after Vietnam and he returns to Vietnam during the fall to attempt to rescue Nick.

Best movie to ever be f* ing made loved it It had all the emotions and the meaning if you look beyond it was amazing Im glade I watched it.

The deer hunter trailer. The Deer Hunter is most of all a character study. This is why it was absolutely necessary to find the right cast. And the right cast it was. Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep and Chris Walken deliver memorable performances and demonstrate their tremendous acting potential.
The film though is not a masterpiece as so many people claim it to be. It takes off due to the performances, for sure, but the script is not that strong. I've found it somewhat incoherent, more of a collection of strong scenes than a flowing story. Also you can't fail to notice the sub-par sound quality and editing.
So don't miss it, you have three Oscar-caliber performances in one movie, but having very high expectations may leave you disappointed...

He just connects with Nick the most because he can be sincere. The other guys are goofs who never take anything seriously. That is a turn off to Michael. The deer hunter best scene. Read the reviews by date and one can tell which generation knows war and which does not. The effects shown on the characters is what we see on returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Regardless war is still the same and has lasting effects on the participants just as this movie shows. The acting is good because they are all professionals in the true sense of the word. The script is good because all of it is true to some degree for veterans of the Vietnam debacle. the scenes are authentic. Racist against Vietnamese-it is what it was. The film should be viewed today as a good history lesson for all. The only thing that has changed is that the steel mill has probably closed.

It is not a perfect film but then again what is. Deer Hunter is just another American propaganda film to make Americans hate the Vietnamese, a people who were forced into a fight for their lives and for survival just because the U.S. was (still is) greedy and willing to murders millions of innocent men, women and children. I am a Vietnam War Vet (1966 - 1967) and I am telling you that we got screwed. Fuck the U.S.
